Nguashi N'timbo - Manguta

Nguashi N'timbo was a member of TPOK Jazz from 1979-1981 and in this time he recorded two albums with them where he was the featured vocalist and composer.

One is called 'Banganga Ya Moyindo' and it was released on N'Timbo's own label. It is available from the following blog.

The second album is called 'Manguta' from which the title track was a big hit. You can see a live performance of Manguta by TPOK Jazz here.

We also provide the album Manguta here for your listening pleasure. It is a great album never released on CD or mp3. There are a couple of skips on the opening track which couldn't be helped. We're not sure who plays on these albums but we can hear Josky and Ntesa singing at some points and we think we hear Franco's guitar too!

  1. Thank you so much for you blog which I just discovered after receiving an email by another Nguashi fan. I never knew that there is a whole LP around Manguta one of my all time favorites. The video is great too.

  3. Fantastic albums from Nguashi N'timbo!!

The major issue is not composition and singing, the issue is who you are singing with.

I have not heard Nguashi's compositions with other band he debuited before crossing to TP OK Jazz; but these composition in which he dueted with TP OK Jazz was excellent, instrumentation is good, just from string section down to horn section the arrangement was good. In vocal line up Josky Kiambukuta Londa and Dalienst Zitani Ya Ntesa covered and sychronised well with Nguashi N'timbo.

I enjoyed much better in "BANGANGA YA MOYINDO" where Nguashi pop up in chorus with swahili lamentation "...iwe tukate maneno, tuwauana sana, lakini nifanye nini ooh sherie mie..".

Big up Kasongo for superb posting

  5. Notice that the Manguta LP version is different from the single version.
Nguashi has another swahili Lp which has proved imposible to get, different from the Shauri yako Lp.

  6. I just stumbled on the blog, very good. I have another Nguashi Ntimbo LP, released on Polydor Nigeria in 1984, probably entitled Mboyo Vol 1.
    Editions Ntijems

    Tracks:
    Mboyo
    Original

    Mokolo Ekonginda
    Ntimbo Nazongeliyo

Not up to the earlier stuff to be honest but fun all the same.

    Cheers

    Eddy
