A L'ANCIENNE BELGIQUE (EDIPOP POP 025,1985)

This post is a special request from Kisondella in Tanzania. It is a great album from 1985 that has a real sound of its own. The use of chorused guitars and electric drums might put off some purists, but the songs and musicianship on the album transcend any dated 80's sounds. Josky and Madilu are to the fore on the vocal front here. The album includes the classic Madilu System song 'Pesa Position Na Yo'.

We do not have an LP version of this so the tracks we've posted are compiled from the out of print CD reissues SONODISC CDS 6856, SONODISC CDS 6866 and SONODISC CDS 6852.
Why Sonodisc split the tracks across these discs we don't understand!

The images of the LP were taken from another internet site.

  1. The electronics initially bothered me, but, so what! KSK is possibly my favorite TPOK track from this period, and one certainly would not want to miss Josky's majestic voice on account of a few gimmicky sounds.

  2. Hi Kasongo!

Thanks very much for honouring my request; now you making my life moving along side with all fans dedicated to Franco and TP OK Jazz.

This album, to me is one of my favourite I have ever bet, just starting with K.S.K, Josky Kiambukuta Londa, manifest why Franco could not let him part with TP Ok Jazz at any cost.

Other tracks are not behind Voices of Madilu Jean Bialu System in Pesa position Yo, Dalienst Zitani Ya Ntesa in Ndaya are superb!!.

Electric drum are not bad as such, I think they synchronize well with strings section.

I have a feeling angels in heaven are enjoying these legendary with line up as follows:

Vocal: Franco, Kiwakana Aime Kiala, Djo Mpoy Kaninda, Madilu Jean Bialu System, Dalienst Zitani Ya Ntesa, Djekan Lola Checain

    String section: Gerry Dialungana,
    Mpuddi Decca Kasala, Also franco,

Aired Section: Rondot Kasongo, Empopo Loway, Matalanza, Musekiwa,

    Drums/percusion: Ntoya Pajos,

WE SHALL MISS THEIR PHYSICAL PRESENCE, BUT NEVER THEIR MUSIC, THEIR MUSIC AND LEGACY WILL REMAIN IN OUR HEARTS. GOD BLESS THESE BEAUTIFUL SOULS, AND REST THEM IN PEACE.

Thanks Kasongo and Isaac Musanga for putting this blog in place in restoring Franco and TPOK Jazz's legacy.

  3. i have just bought the cd version of this album - i wanted it for a very long time but couldn't find it on lp (at a decent price) - that's why i finally bought it on cd and unfortunately it's a ridiculous 'cheap' release: 1 frontpicture page and nothing else: no info about recording dates and musicians - i cannot understand how people dare to release such a disrespectful cd (Grace Music) - the back cover says : "licence Mamy Luambo, la représentante de la succession Luambo-Franco en Europe" - a very bad "représentante" if you ask me!

as far as the music is concerned: it's wonderful except for the very irritating electronic drum sounds which really spoil the fun! i stumbled on this site because i initially thought that the electronic drum sounds were added later but it seems they were already on the original release - it's a shame!

  4. Luke!

There are some folks who are trying to live on other's sweat. I can presume that CD to have been pirated. We are very keen to buy something genuine, but the problem comes when you need something genuine and you do not get it and at time it appears, it is pirate. You find yourself implicated by having it. Thanks at least you have it after long search
